Washi Tape Dry Erase Board

Downtown Tape provided the washi tape for this project but all opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.

I love washi tape and I really like to use it in craft projects and decorative projects.  I’m sharing a simple washi tape project with you today: a washi tape dry erase board.  With a simple frame, a couple of patterns of washi tape, and some paint, you can have a super cute dry erase board to match any room.

This project is not only simple but it’s super cost effective.  I used an old frame I had in the garage, some leftover pink spray paint, and two partial rolls of washi tape.  If you don’t have a stash like I do, you could always hit up a thrift store for a cheap frame.

I removed the glass from the frame then spray painted the frame with a glossy pink paint that coordinated well with the washi tape I chose.  I gave it a number of coats to make sure I had good coverage.

I used the old photo that was in the frame, turned it over {so the photo wouldn’t show through the somewhat translucent washi tape}, and covered it with strips of washi tape.  You could also cut a piece of cardstock to fit the frame and cover that with the washi tape.  I love that these two washi tapes have different widths but any style of washi tape will work.  If you want a dry erase board that’s a bit more subtle, use just one washi tape pattern.

Once the paint on the frame was dry, I popped the washi tape-covered paper behind the glass …

… and that’s it: a super cute dry erase board.  Wouldn’t this make a fun and simple teacher appreciation gift?  Or a Christmas gift?
