Someone I love just had the cutest baby boy. She and her husband also happen to be big football fans so a knit football hat for the baby seemed just right.
I used a Simple Baby Hat pattern from Itty-Bitty Hats {one of my favorite knitting books ... if you haven't heard of it, see the affiliate link below} and modified it to look like a football. I added three rows of white near the top and bottom and added some football stitch lines to finish it off. Pulling the decrease stitches tightly on top gave the hat the perfect pointed football end.
