Duct Tape Gift Wrap

I have a friend who gives beautifully wrapped packages ... the outside of the gift is as fun as the inside.  I love pretty gift wrap but I'm often totally lazy and end up throwing a gift in a bag.  You too?

This week Tate was invited to a birthday party and I was inspired to do something cute with the outside of the gift.  I love the way it turned out and had to share it with you.

I wrapped the box in white wrapping paper {a little trick: I often buy cheap wrapping paper and use the plain white inside instead of the outer print} and crossed duct tape over it in two directions.  {I love this neon zig zag/chevron print!}

To make the petals of the flower, I tore pieces of duct tape and folded them into thirds.

I made five pieces like that and used a little hot glue to attach them together and hold them in place.

I folded a piece of duct tape onto itself and then cut a circle with a large hole punch for the center of the flower.

The final touch was a little monogram.  I traced one of Tate's alphabet letters onto a sheet of duct tape, cut it out, and stuck it on the package.

I think the present looked so cute!  This might replace my toss-in-a-gift-bag approach to wrapping!
