Discipleship Journals for Kids

This isn't exactly a craft project {although I did have to pretty them up a bit} but I thought I'd share something I'm doing with my kids this year.

When my four older kids started school, they also started a weekly homemade discipleship journal. In the midst of scholarly growth, I really want them to find spiritual growth as well and this seemed like a good way to add some Biblical study into their routine.

Each of the kids has a composition notebook covered in scrapbook paper ...

... and bound with duct tape.

Each week of the school year {40 total} has a page with a Bible reading and a question or questions to go with it.  The questions for the younger kids were kept on the simple side {although they both read above grade level and should have no difficulty with them}.  The plan is that they'll do the reading, answer the question(s) and journal in the notebook.  Each Sunday we'll spend some time discussing that week's reading.

There are also sections for verses that they want to remember, thoughts and notes ...

... and prayers.

They're not at all fancy but they weren't intended to be.  I'm truly hoping that they'll serve the purpose of drawing my kids closer to Jesus this year.

  1. Beautiful idea. I am thinking of a way to implement more bible reading and memory work. Thanks!
