Holiday Roads :: A Week at the South Padre Beach

We just returned home from a week on the beautiful beaches of South Padre Island {at the tip of Texas}.
It was the most relaxing vacation I've ever had.  I was worried I wouldn't be able to sit and do nothing for an entire week but I surprised myself.
I sat in the water and sifted sand through my fingers for hours on end and didn't think about my to-do list once.  A successful vacation, no?

Our kids were amazing road trippers and we had so much fun playing on the beach every day and exploring the area.
We swam in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico ...
... collected shells and built sand castles ...
... buried Kennedy in the sand ...
... and did lots of boogie boarding {my attempt at boogie boarding wasn't pretty ... who knew those waves could toss me and my swimsuit in conflicting directions.  My teenage son may be scarred for life.}.

We saw sand crabs ...
... ghost shrimp ...

... sea turtles and an alligator ...
... and lots of unique coastal birds.

We swam in the pool ...
... played some tennis ...
... scoped out the local lighthouse ...
... and pirate ship ...
... and took walks on the beach.

We even grilled dinner on the beach one night.

I'm sad it's over but it was such a great and memorable vacation and an awesome time with my big ol' family!

  2. Fabulous Holiday Randi - and yes the boogie board comment made me laugh as well!!! I was the same as you, thinking a beach vacation where all you do is sit at the beach doesn't seem like it would appeal to me - but when we went to Mexico I realized it's pretty easy to fall into the "do nothing" lifestyle!
Hopefully your next big family holiday is skiing in the Rockies???? We would all love to see you up here!!!!

  5. Wow, what an amazing trip! I bet you started swimming in the pool after you saw the alligators! Totally insane! Anyway, my mom lost her top boogie boarding in Hawaii. It was hilarious! She was just thankful to be standing up and walking out of the water. As an excuse for what happened, she told everyone she was Canadian. Everyone was very forgiving - making the whole thing funnier!

Glad you had a great time!
