National Picnic Day {with Earth's Best}

Did you know National Picnic Day is coming up on June 18th?
We love going on picnics.  In fact, Phil and I bought a picnic basket when we first started dating.  It's now faded and well used and full of great memories.
I love a gourmet picnic with a delicious cold pasta salad, a bottle of wine, some crusty bread, and a sweet dessert.
But having a picnic can also be simple and quick to throw together.

My favorite picnic with kids is a make-your-own-sandwich picnic.  The food goes from the fridge to the basket and once settled at the picnic site, everyone makes their own sandwich just the way they like it.

I throw in leftover paper plates and napkins, bread or rolls, deli meat or other fillings {tuna or egg salad}, cheese, and condiments {mustard, mayo, pickles, or even a savory tapenade}.  Fruit, a side snack, and a cold drink complete the meal.
