Feeding the Finches {and a Winner}

We've been having a great time watching the birds eat from our feeders these last few months.  And it seems they're pretty happy to have a reliable food source.
This month we received another feeder: the Upside Down Goldfinch Feeder.

We did a little research in my bird book and found that goldfinches only winter in Texas.

I'm so hoping that some of these bright colored birds are still hanging around waiting for the northern parts to warm.  I love the idea of watching the finches hang upside down to eat!
We finished a ton of work in the garden this morning so it was a great time to hang a new feeder.  {A really beautiful feeder, I might add.  The sturdy metal and glass design is really attractive.}  We filled the birdfeeder with thistle {a favorite food of the goldfinch} and placed it in the center of a tree outside our favorite viewing window.  I've seen many finches in this tree so it seemed like the perfect spot.  

This feeder is designed so that goldfinches can perch on it and eat upside down.  Other birds can't so the goldfinches can eat in peace at this feeder and not worry about being disturbed.

Disturbed by any other birds, that is.  We have a very pesky squirrel who also seems to enjoy eating upside down.  We caught him yesterday, snacking from our other feeder.  Tate and I got quite a kick out of his acrobatics and tried to watch quietly through the window.  Unfortunately, he heard us laughing and that ended his antics.

I'm hoping to catch {with my camera} some other upside down creatures this month.
