Chalk Cloth Valentine's Day Shirts

I've had the idea for a while of sewing chalk cloth onto a garment, making a cute shirt that can be customized any way you want.  The one thing I was unsure about is whether chalk cloth can be washed.  I experimented last night, and it appears it can be.  I didn't dry the shirt {just laid it flat and let it air dry} but the washing didn't seem to affect the chalk cloth at all.

The result of that successful experiment is this cute chalk cloth shirt for Lila to wear for Valentine's Day {and really any other day}.  In this photo, I wrote "cute" on the chalk cloth heart but the ideas are endless.  I think it will look adorable printed by Lila as well ... little kid writing is just too cute.

I "scribble" stitched the heart onto the shirt {I think scribble stitch might be a term I invented but it seems perfect for that duplicate, imperfect stitching that I love}.

Such a cute result and so simple to make!

  8. Wow, that is a great idea! I recently discovered chalk pens (like the ones they use on those cute menu boards at restaurants/coffee shops). I wonder if that would work too? Thanks for sharing!

  10. So cute! I was wondering if it could be washed too! Did you just use a regular needle, or like a leather/upholstry needle? Adorable awesomeness ;)
