Every summer for many years I've made a summer schedule of activities for the kids. It started because I didn't want summer to come and go without having filled our days with fun activities and memories. The activities are always a combination of outings, craft projects, and other ideas. I schedule two to three days a week and leave the other days for spontaneous fun.
Today's activity was ice cream making. I've made ice-cream-in-a-bag many times (with the older kids, as a birthday party activity, for a kids cooking class) but today was Luke and Lila's first time. This title of this post may have never been more true. By the time I had shaken up bags of ice and salt for ten minutes, I felt like screaming. I kind of forgot that shaking the bag constantly is a bit chilling for toddlers ... it was a bit chilling for me.
If you've never made ice cream in a bag, here's a link to the recipe (my addendum: you can double the recipe and rock salt is a must unless you want to be shaking into the next millennium). Happy ice cream making!

What a fun activity to do as a family...especially if you have a husband to do the shaking.
